Goldsboro is my hometown I graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1966 then left to join the Marine Corp and headed to Vietnam. I began my business career with the DuPont Company working for 26 years in Information Technology. Moving often and purchasing nine homes peaked my interest in real estate. I realized that purchasing a home was a major financial/business decision but at the same time a very personal one. Goldsboro has always been home and in when in 1999 I decided to go out on my own I came back and started Keelnet.
Goldsboro changed a lot in the twenty years I was gone. The downtown changed dramatically. Real estate professionals refer to that cycle as stability and then declining. I was excited when during my years as a Board member on the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation (DGDC) I began to see an emergence from that phase into the current one of rejuvenation. I wanted to be part of that and decided the time was right to pursue my interest in real estate.
One thing that has not changed is the quality and values of the people that live in my hometown. I have been fortunate to serve on the Board of Directors of several of our civic organizations, Kiwanis, Community in Schools, Crime Stoppers, DGDC and I have met and interacted with some of the finest folks in the world. This is a great place to live and raise a family and I truly believe it will only get better.
I learned a number of things as a small business owner that apply no matter the product or service being provide; Never sell a client more that they need or want, present their options but help them to avoid making a financial mistake. It is always important to treat folk’s right but it becomes especially important in a small town because you are going to run in to them, at a school function, the grocery store, or a charity event.
I love my hometown and I am excited about the prospect of joining Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices McMillen and Associates Realty and getting involved in real estate to have an opportunity to help make it even better.
